Living in the district is not like visiting here. First of all, there's the traffic. More than the cars, it's the pedestrians. They don't look. Red lights don't apply to most of the very busy very important people who live in this city. They just go and those of us in a car better make way. After the pedestrians it's the taxis followed by diplomats who don't give a shit about anyone else who might be on the road they want to be on. And then there's the tour busses. I never know when they're going to stop, much less where. I guess they don't either.
Sam's motto is if he can't walk, bus or metro, he isn't going. Good philosophy except for going to the grocery store, anywhere that the metro doesn't stop, or anywhere out of the district. I like to escape at least once a week. I go to Virginia or Maryland. I love the Chesapeake and I love the blue ridge mountains. I don't love the crowded, busy streets of Washington DC.
